Minutina, known also as Erba Stella is a cool season Italian heirloom salad green producing tender fibreless narrow dark green leaves 25cm long. A tasty addition to any salad it is also delicious pan and stir fried.
This biennial from the rocky Mediterranean coast thrives in cold wet conditions and is best sown from autumn through to spring as it dislikes hot weather.
Minutina can be treated as a ‘cut and come again’ vegetable. New leaves will continue to grow but re-sow as vigour reduces.
For best leaf production sow or plant thickly forcing leaves into a vertical position as individual plants produce rosettes of leaves that lay flat against the soil trapping dirt. Grows happily in any moist soil including saline soils.
