(Brassica oleracea var. acephala) Ancestor of the cabbages, Kale is one of the most cold hardy of winter vegetables. Leaves are harvested on a cut and come again basis and flavour improves under frosty conditions. Sow Kale seeds from late summer through autumn for a winter crop, and from late winter and spring for a summer crop. Germination: 5-10 days at 18C. It requires full sun and a moist, well-drained site.
