(Cucumis sativus) Cucumbers are a warm season vegetable originating from northern India, and have been cultivated since ancient times from East Asia through to Europe. They are easy to grow but cucumber seeds need warmth to germinate, 24-30C is ideal. Sow cucumber seeds indoors in late winter and plant out after frost in cold climates, and during the dry season in tropical area. Seeds can be direct sown if soil is above 21C. Training cucumbers vines over a trellis is helpful to reduce leaf fungal problems and improve the quality of the fruit.
