Jacaranda is famous for its spectacular display of mauve coloured flowers in spring. Native to the high planes of Brazil, it performs best in sub-tropical to temperate climates. Young trees will require some frost protection. This fast growing tree develops a broad rounded crown ideal for shade. Jacarandas will depending on climate, shed their leaves in winter or early spring just before flowering. This trait allows for the stunning display as the flowers are bourn on bare branches before falling to carpet the ground.
The Jacaranda has become famous in the town of Grafton in northern NSW where the Jacaranda festival is held each year in late October to early November.
