(Nelumbo Nucifera) Native to Asia. Also commonly known as the Sacred Lotus, Indian Lotus, etc.
An aquatic plant that produces fragrant pink flowers up to 20cm across. The seeds, roots and flowers are edible and delicious. The large leaves are used in the orient to wrap steamed foods. Lotus requires 23-27C of water temperature during the growing season. It prefers rich loam soil in full sun location. It’s winter hardy as long as the roots do not freeze.
