German Chamomile is an aromatic annual herb cultivated for its medicinal properties. Prepared in a similar way to the closely related Roman Chamomile (Anthemis nobilis), German Camomile is frequently used as a tonic for the treatment of stomach ailments, and also contains anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties. Prepared as a tea, Chamomile is a useful sleep aid.
German Chamomile is also a useful companion plant in the garden, believed to aid the health and growth of other plants, and also increase the flavours and essential oils of other herbs such as mints, oregano, sages and basil.
As a plant Chamomile prefers an open sunny site in any well drained soil. It may reach a height of 50cm.
